Renowned Taiwanese writer Chiung Yao's death turns spotlight on elderly support

For those familiar with popular romance fictions, you might know the hit drama My Fair Princess from the late 1990s. Last week, its screenwriter and renowned Taiwanese writer, Chiung Yao, died by suicide at her home. The 86-year-old was widely considered as the world's most popular Chinese-language romance novelist. Her death has shocked fans and sparked calls for Taiwanese society to pay greater attention to issues that may lead to rising suicide risk among the elderly.
